Do
you manufacture or remanufacture exterior wood siding, sheathing or decking
products???
Are
your products going into the California market???
If you answered “Yes” to these
questions, then you need to know about the new California Wildland Urban
Interface (WUI) fire regulations and how they may impact your business in the
future.
Manufacturers of various building
products, including wood siding, decking and under eave products will need to be
registered in the Building Materials Listing Program with the California Office
of the State Fire Marshall (OSFM) by the end of 2011. Failure to register could result in
rejection of your product by building officials in certain California areas
beginning January 2012.
California OSFM requires BML listing
for 6 different types of exterior wood products.

Manufacturers and remanufacturers of
products included in one of these 6 categories must:
1)
Apply for
a listing under one or more of the six generic product categories,
2)
Have an
agreement with a California‐approved third‐ party quality control (QC) agency
like PLIB, and
3)
Mark their
products with an approved QC logo (either directly on the product, on the paper
wrap or bundle tag).
Pacific Lumber Inspection Bureau is
registered with the OSFM as an approved third-party QC agency. We can help you through the BML process so
your products will be accepted in all California markets, including WUI
zones.
