PLIB is approved by the USDA Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) and the Canadian Food Inspection Service (CFIA) to issue “Heat Treatment Certification Using a Kiln Facility” documents.  These certificates are required to meet import requirements of the European Union (EU) and are also used to obtain phytosanitary certificates from APHIS or CFIA for lumber exports into other countries.

PLIB employs a field staff of experienced quality control supervisors that are highly respected for their knowledge and integrity in the supervision of lumber production, grading and grade marking.  The superior performance of the Bureau has been recognized by both the American Lumber Standards Committee (ALSC) and the Canadian Lumber Standards Accreditation Board (CLSAB).  Both organizations have accredited PLIB as a provider of competent and reliable lumber inspection, certification and grade marking services.

Since its inception in 1903, the Bureau has functioned as an international organization, with Canadian and United States lumberman working closely together.  PLIB’s Board of Directors are selected to provide fair representation across all areas of production and all sizes of mills.
