We are excited to welcome our newest subscriber to the WUI program, Kayu International, Inc.  Based out of Couer d’ Alene, Kayu is a direct importer of premium hardwood decking products from Southeast Asia. In the State of California, wood products used in exposed, exterior applications in WUI regions should be listed with the Office of the State Fire Marshall (OSFM). Having a listing shows that the product has been tested and approved for WUI regions. To receive the OSFM listing, products must pass a special flame spread test and, in the case of decking, special decking fire tests. Once the product has passed the required fire tests and is certified, it can bear a special OSFM mark or tag that provides evidence it has is approved for use in WUI regions.

PLIB assisted Kayu International with the sample collection and lining up the fire testing facilities. To maintain this WUI listing, WUI approved products must be inspected on a regular basis to confirm that they meet the physical property product specifications in the listing, including species, dimensions and other properties. PLIB is recognized by California’s OSFM as an approved WUI inspection agency and provides inspection and certification services to companies that want their products listed as a OSFM WUI approved product.
