PLIB is accredited by International Accreditation Service, Inc. (IAS) as an ISO 17020 third-party inspection agency for structural glued laminated timber (view certificate) as required by ANSI A190. IAS is a nonprofit, public-benefit corporation and a subsidiary of the International Code Council (ICC), the governing body that develops the International Building Code (IBC).
As a result of its 2019 merger with West Coast Lumber Inspection Bureau (WCLIB) and the American Institute of Timber Construction (AITC), PLIB provides licenses under the AITC trademark to qualified structural glued laminated timber (glulam) producers that subscribe to our glulam quality control and inspection service. These licenses allow manufacturers to stamp their glulam products as complying with ANSI A190.1, the consensus standard for Structural Glued Laminated Timber that is referenced in the IBC.
Licensees must agree to maintain a quality control program that is compliant with ANSI A190.1 as well as the American Institute of Timber Construction (AITC) Standards and the AITC Quality Control Systems Manual. Licensees also are subject to periodic plant inspections conducted by PLIB’s team of qualified inspectors who will audit and verify the producers’ in-plant QC systems, procedures, and production.
